Elements and Principles of Design


Hello, my name is Diego and I will be talking about the elements and principles of design. The elements of design are, line, color & value, shape, texture, size & scale, and direction. The principles of design are,proximity, balance, alignment, repetition, contrast, and space.  The elements and principles of design are important because they can help the designer create effective images that are pleasing that can also give the message out to the audience. An example of me using the elements and principles of design is when I create an image and I have to make a wall, I can use shape, repetition, texture, and alignment to my design by adding rectangles on the wall to make the wall look more realistic and making it seem it is a brick wall.

Type in InDesign Post #2

In InDesign, there are many ways to manipulate and flow type to create visually engaging layouts. One example is the  tracking and kerning  tool. Tracking adjusts the space between all characters in a word or paragraph, while kerning adjusts the space between specific pairs of characters. These tools help refine the readability and aesthetics of the design. Another useful tool is the  text flow tool , which allows text to flow around any shape or object. For instance, text can be made to flow in a circle or in waves, giving the design a more playful and dynamic feel. One possibility I envision with these tools is the creation of logos using flowing text. A great example of this is the  Starbucks  logo, where the words "Starbucks Coffee" flow around in a circular shape, framing the logo itself.

Blog Post Monogram & Apps Review Post

  Hello, my name is Diego Lopez, and the image above is the monogram logo that I designed. The challenge wasn’t in using the different Adobe applications to design my monogram—it was in creating the monogram itself. I wanted something clean and simple, inspired by logos like YSL and LV. The hardest part was choosing the right font, one that allowed the letters to overlap neatly without looking messy. I’ve learned how to finalize a project for print-ready use by exporting in the correct file formats. A final PDF is especially important because it preserves formatting, works across all devices, looks professional, can be secured, is print-ready, and serves as the official version for submissions or approvals.
